                Summary: Canadian Coin Heads is an offline-first app. Your collection data is stored locally on your device and optionally synced across your Apple devices via iCloud. Online features (AI identification, pricing, and market lookups) transmit only the data needed for those requests.
            

1. Information We Collect

Canadian Coin Heads is designed with privacy as a core principle. The app operates primarily offline, and uses only the minimum data needed for optional online features:

Collection Data: All coin and bullion data you enter is stored on your device. This data never leaves your device unless you enable iCloud sync or explicitly export it.
No Account Required: You do not need to create an account or provide any personal information to use the app.
Optional AI Request Data: If you use AI coin identification, the selected image, selected side (heads/tails/unknown), and optional context text are sent to AI providers for processing.

2. How We Use Information

Your local collection data stays on your device and is used only to power app features. For optional online requests, transmitted data is used only to return the requested result (for example, identifying a coin image or fetching market/spot data).

3. Data Storage

All data is stored locally on your iOS device and, when iCloud is enabled, synced to your personal iCloud account:

Coin collection data
Bullion stack data
Wishlist data
Photos of coins and bullion items
Settings and preferences
Cached pricing data

This data is protected by your device's security features, including encryption and biometric authentication if enabled. iCloud data is encrypted in transit and at rest by Apple.

4. Network Requests

The app makes limited network requests to provide enhanced features:

Spot Prices: The app may fetch precious metals prices from third-party data providers.
Reference Data: The app may fetch reference information for display purposes.
eBay Market Data: Users may fetch sold/active listing data from eBay-backed endpoints.
Crash Reporting: The app uses Sentry to collect anonymous crash reports and diagnostic data (device type, OS version, app version, and crash stack traces). No personally identifiable information or collection data is included. See Sentry's privacy policy.
No Analytics or Tracking: The app does not use any analytics frameworks, advertising SDKs, or tracking technologies. We do not track you across other apps or websites.
Minimal Transmission: Online requests transmit only the fields required to fulfill the feature request.
Offline Mode: The app works fully offline using cached data. Network requests enhance the experience but are not required.

5. AI Coin Identification

The app includes an optional AI coin identification feature:

Camera Access: When you choose to use AI identification, the app requests access to your device's camera to photograph coins.
Third-Party AI Provider: AI requests are currently processed by Anthropic through our backend service.
What Is Sent: The selected coin image, side selection, and optional user-entered context text for the identification request.
User Permission: The app requires explicit user consent before AI request data is transmitted to the AI provider.
Optional Feature: AI identification is entirely optional. You can add coins manually without using AI.

6. Data Sharing

We share only feature-specific request data with the service providers required to fulfill that request:

Anthropic: For optional AI coin identification requests, after user consent.
Market/Price APIs: For optional spot and market data lookups.

Your local collection database remains on-device unless you enable iCloud sync or explicitly export it.

7. Export Feature

The app includes an export feature that allows you to save your collection data as a file. When you use this feature:

The exported file is created locally on your device
You control where the file is saved and who it's shared with
We have no access to exported files

8. iCloud Sync & Cloud Photo Storage

If iCloud is enabled for Canadian Coin Heads on your device, the app uses Apple's iCloud to sync your collection data and photos across your Apple devices:

Optional Sync: If iCloud is enabled for Canadian Coin Heads in your device settings, your collection data and photos sync automatically across your Apple devices. You can disable this at any time in iOS Settings.
Apple Infrastructure: All synced data is stored in your personal iCloud account using Apple's CloudKit infrastructure. We do not have access to your iCloud-synced data.
Photo Storage: Photos you add to coins, bullion, and wishlist items are stored in your iCloud storage and count toward your iCloud storage quota.
Local-Only Default: The app works fully in local-only mode by default. If iCloud is not enabled or is unavailable, all data remains on your device. No data is lost.
Apple's Privacy Policy: iCloud data handling is governed by Apple's Privacy Policy.

9. Data Retention

Because the app is offline-first, most data never leaves your device. For the limited data involved in optional online features:

AI Identification Requests: Images sent for AI identification are processed in real time and are not stored by our backend after the response is returned.
Spot Price Data: Cached pricing data on your device is overwritten each time new prices are fetched. No pricing request history is stored on our servers.
Server Logs: Standard server logs (timestamps, request metadata) may be retained for up to 30 days for debugging and then automatically deleted.

10. Your Privacy Rights

Because Canadian Coin Heads stores your collection data locally on your device, you are already in full control of your data. You can:

Access: View all your data directly in the app at any time — it is stored on your device.
Export: Use the app's Export feature to download a complete copy of your collection data.
Delete: Delete any coin or bullion entry in the app, or delete the app entirely to remove all local data.
Correct: Edit any entry in your collection at any time.

If you have questions about any data transmitted during optional online features, contact us and we will respond within 30 days.

11. Cross-Border Data Processing

If you use AI coin identification, image data is processed by Anthropic, whose servers are located in the United States. By using this optional feature, you acknowledge that your image data may be transferred to and processed in the United States. Anthropic's privacy practices are governed by their own privacy policy, available at anthropic.com/privacy.

12. Children's Privacy

Canadian Coin Heads is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect any information from children.

13. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on this page and updating the "Effective Date" at the top.
